Tot Terror Twenty-Twelve.

This year’s Halloween party was sooooo much fun!!  We changed things up a bit this year and invited lots of our friends over for coloring, painting and eating of course!!  Laura helped me with hosting and we wanted to be sure we had plenty for all the kids to do so we had a pumpkin painting station, a cookie creation station, a crafting station and a pinata.  We offered a “soup” bar: chicken noodle, taco soup and potato soup.  We asked each guest to bring a sweet treat to share.

I had Lynette help me again with making my Halloween banner.  I gave her all the materials and ideas and she worked her magic to create it!  I was so pleased with the final product!!  Lynette gave me the idea of a “photo wall” using scrapbook paper.  I was so pleased with how it turned out as well!  Because the temp was pretty cold that evening, we ended up having most of our activities and the photo booth inside, but it worked!  I will say, I had a lot of hay all over my house though!

Our pumpkins we decorated about a week before the party that greeted our guests!

We had a great turn out of both “old” and “new” friends!!  We feel so blessed to have such amazing family and friends to share this life with!!  I believe our party was a HUGE success in great part to everyone that came to celebrate with us!  And of course, this mama is already excited for next year’s party!!

Such a great party!!  Thanks to all of our family and friends for being here to make it great!  Next up, pics of Jensen and Owen on Halloween!!

Fresh, Clean and Exhausted.

Life around here is soooo busy with two kids under the age of 3!!  Someone always needs something, something isn’t working right, someone has to go potty, everyone is hungry, etc.  I have enjoyed being back to work although my morning routine is still a work in progress.  Getting everyone dressed, fed and ready for the day is not the easiest task by yourself, but we are managing.  Some mornings we get out of here on time and other mornings we don’t and that is just how it is right now!!

Jensen officially started preschool at the end of July:

I am still nursing my little man which is a surprise to me to be honest.  I shared in one of my previous posts about Owen that in the beginning I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to nurse him beyond the first few weeks of his life.  Not because of milk production, but because Owen would nurse for 45 minutes every 2 hours.  That timetable was really interrupting everyday routines and missing out in some of our “normal” activities was really getting to me.  Thankfully, after speaking with my mom, pediatrician and my wonderful husband, I tried some new things and kept at it.   I only nursed Jensen until she was 4 months and she continued to get breast milk until she was about 5.5 months old.  My goal when I was pregnant with Owen was to try and nurse him until he was 6 months old.  I only have about 3 weeks to go before he is 6 months so we shall see!

So comfortable in daddy’s arms:

Aside from the chaos that goes with raising two little ones, Drew and I have been busy updating our home.  We started outside this spring with the landscape in the front of our house.  It was really looking great until the drought and of course the plants took a big hit.  It appears we have lost one of the plants, but Drew is hopeful he can bring it back.  Inside we have done small projects here and there.  We re-did an old buffet I had when I was a teenager, we made a cute chicken-wire frame, we have been working to finalize Owen’s room and we recently started a remodel on our kitchen.  Yes, my orange kitchen is no longer.  I did really love it, but Drew never really did and a couple weeks ago I told him I thought I was ready for a change in there.  So far we have painted the walls and the ceiling.  We have a LOT of work left in the kitchen and we are ok with it being a very s l o w project.  We are going to paint our cabinets and trim, change the back-splash, get new blinds and eventually update our appliances.  We are starting with the less expensive things (painting) but of course they are the most time consuming!  I will try to do better at taking and posting pics as we go!

Pics of Owen’s room:

This is a “buffet” that my parents bought for me when I was in high school.  At that time, I painted it two shades of green and used it as a dresser.  I recently painted it a glossy white and put new crystal knobs on it.  I LOVE it and am using it in my living room to store games and toys for the kids.

Hanging above my new buffet is a frame I refinished using some purple spray paint and chicken wire.  I found this craft idea on another blog and was so excited because I had this large frame I bought for $4 at a garage sale 2 years ago that I still hadn’t done anything with!  It turned out great and now I can display the Jensen’s artwork and pictures of the family!

Our living room is getting a fresh new coat of white paint as I type so I hope to have some pics up soon!

Whew….until next time!!

What we’ve been up to….

Once again an entire month has gotten away from me!!  June seemed to have come and gone with the blink of an eye.  We spent a lot of time celebrating with family and friends.  We went on two different lake trips (I still have a blog to come about one of them), we celebrated father’s day, we played at the pool and Owen turned 3 months old (post to come  soon!)

Father’s Day.

I decided to make these cute little trees with the kids hand and foot prints- thanks Pinterest.  We made one for Drew, one for my father in law and one for my dad.  The one for papa D had all four grand kids hand and foot prints on it and turned out so cute!!  Jensen and I started off our day by making daddy some yummy cookies!!  Jensen was mommy’s big helper by  mixing the batter and rolling the cookies in powdered sugar and of course licking the spoon when we were done!

Then it was time to work on our tree!  I cut holes in a trash bag and put it on Jensen so that we wouldn’t get paint everywhere.   Jensen did a great job letting me paint her hands and then sticking them down on the tree.  Once she was done putting her hand prints on all of them it was Owen’s turn. I really wanted to use Owen’s hands as well because the one I was copying from Pinterest used hands.  At the last second I decided to use Owen’s feet because he still had pretty closed fists and I’m sure it would have been a disaster.  I was super excited with how they turned out!!  I added the kids names and ages under the hand/foot which was an addition of my own.  Lynette had been here helping me (thank goodness) and put a heart with  an “S” in it on the trunk of the tree.  It was also a cute addition and she made it look like it had been carved!!

Capturing Moments in Life.

I also spent a lot of June taking pictures of my growing babies!! Life with two children has definitely been an adjustment.     Before Owen arrived, I was trying to mentally prepare myself for the changes that I knew where coming: sleep deprivation, around the clock feedings, etc.  After Owen arrived the sleep deprivation didn’t bother me so much (probably because ever since having Jensen I just don’t sleep the same) it was the constant nursing.  In the first few weeks of his life I contemplated giving up and switching to formula because I felt so tied down and unable to participate in everyday activities with Jensen and Drew.  It was almost a guilty feeling that I had because so much time was spent feeding Owen that I felt I was losing time with Jensen.  After talking to the pediatrician and my mom I changed a few things and kept at it.  Feedings are spreading out now during the day and I feel like we are starting to create a nice routine – just in time for more changes I know!!  Here are some pics from the last few weeks of the two wonderful blessings in my life!  They keep me on my toes, teach me every day what love is and never cease to amaze me.
